Please be advised that the claim filing deadline in the Jones v. The City of Los Angeles (LADWP) class action settlement, was June 5, 2017.  The claims period is now closed for all class members with the exception of those class members who have received a notification letter advising that their account has a pending field work investigation.  

PAYMENT UPDATE: Credits began appearing on Customers account in November 2017.Payments have to be completed for class members, other than those customers with pending field work investigations, by  April 26, 2018.

CLAIM PROCESSING UPDATE:  Once your claim has been processed you will be informed of the determination of your claim if your claim was complete; otherwise you will receive a letter from the Settlement Administrator requesting additional information to complete the claim. Upon receipt of the determination letter, if you disagree with the determination, you have 30 days to request a review from the Special Master.  Your determination letter will provide you with the next step instructions.

FIELD WORK INVESTIGATION UPDATE: The field work determination letters began being mailed on a rolling basis on February 26, 2018.  Please be patient as the LADWP has up to 18 months after Final Approval of the Settlement to complete all field work investigations. Once you receive your field work determination letter, if you disagree with the determination you will have 60 days from the date of the determination letter to file a claim to seek additional monetary credit or a refund if you believe that you were (i) incorrectly assessed a charge associated with your power, water, sewage or sanitation services at any time from September 3, 2013 to December 30, 2016 or (ii) otherwise damages as a result of your participation in the LADWP’s solar incentive program at any time from February 13, 2010 to December 30, 2016.


The Settlement resolves a lawsuit concerning complaints arising out of customer overbilling and other billing errors by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power ("LADWP") that were caused by, and are related to, the defective implementation of the LADWP’s new billing system and/or damages incurred by customers’ participation in the LADWP’s solar incentive program. If you are an LADWP customer who was overcharged for electric, water, sewage or sanitation services or were otherwise damaged between the dates of September 3, 2013, and December 30, 2016, and who is entitled to credits or refunds for electric, water, sewage or sanitation services and/or for participation in the LADWP’s solar incentive program between February 13, 2010 and December 30, 2016, you may be eligible to obtain Settlement benefits.

On July 7, 2017, the Court held the Final Approval Hearing, at which time the Court approved the Settlement.  Claims continue to be reviewed for completeness and adjudicated.  You will be informed of the determination of your claim if your claim was complete; otherwise you will receive a letter from the Settlement Administrator requesting additional information to complete the claim.
